I’m Alan Reid, a dad first, then a developer, designer and photographer, based in Bedfordshire, UK, currently at Triad Group.
The dad part is the best bit. My son is 12 and mad about karting, so weekends are mostly spent trackside. And honestly, watching him find the thing he loves beats shipping any feature I’ve ever built.
Professionally, I’ve spent over 20 years on both sides of the fence: designing interfaces, then building them. Many of those years were in .NET, but since 2017 it’s been mainly Ruby and Rails. I believe in structured processes, clean design and real attention to detail: solutions that are device-agnostic and accessible to as many people as possible.
I taught myself iOS development during the 2020 lockdowns and shipped two apps to the App Store. Then life got in the way for a while, but 2026 has me back at it, working on a few different apps.
Away from the screen I’m a photographer, featured by Apple and mostly shooting on iPhone. These days that's more often than not from the side of a kart track.

A lot of my career has been spent within the financial industry. It’s where much of the innovation has been, and I’ve gained experience working within some amazing startups.
I’m now taking that experience and seeing where it can be applied in other industries, such as government, property and analytical solutions.
I believe education is important, and I’m constantly striving to learn new things, be it a new language or improving existing skills. I’m currently working on my iOS development in my spare time, while keeping up to date with the latest movements in the Rails community.
